Wasp and Bee Nest Removal in Memphis
A small paper wasp nest under an eave can often wait or be knocked down at night. A yellowjacket nest in the ground or in a wall, or any nest by a door you use, is a job for a pro. Honey bees are different: a beekeeper may be able to remove them alive.

If anyone in the house is allergic to stings, don't try this yourself. Call.
Which one is it
Paper wasps
Long-legged wasps with an open, umbrella-shaped paper nest under eaves and porch ceilings. They are less aggressive than yellowjackets unless the nest is bumped.
Yellowjackets
Short, with bright yellow and black bands, nesting in the ground, in wall voids or in shrubs. They defend the nest hard, and late summer and fall nests are the largest. A steady stream of wasps going in and out of a hole in the lawn or a gap in siding is the sign.
Bald-faced hornets
Black and white, with a large gray paper nest shaped like a football, hanging in a tree or under an eave. Leave these to a pro.
Honey bees
Fuzzy, golden brown. A swarm hanging on a branch often moves on in a day or two. Bees that have moved into a wall are a removal job, often needing the wall opened so the comb comes out too; leaving comb behind can cause a mess and draw more pests.
What the company does
For wasps and yellowjackets, the technician treats the nest opening, often with a dust that workers carry inside, then removes the nest once it is dead if it can be reached. For a nest in a wall, the gap is sealed after the colony is dead, not before, so they don't chew into the house. Ask about this order.
What it costs
This Old House lists wasp removal at $300 to $700 (March 2026, national). A small, easy-to-reach nest is usually at the low end; a nest in a wall or attic at the high end. One nest is a one-time job, and I would not sign a plan for it. See the cost guide.
Staying safe until then
- Keep kids and pets away from the nest and don't mow near a ground nest.
- Use another door if the nest is next to one.
- Don't seal the hole of a wall nest yourself; they may come out inside.
- For a severe reaction to a sting, call 911.
